Pupil Selection

There are only a limited number of places available for pupils and it will be necessary to select 15 pupils from schools within Hartlepool LA to attend the study support sessions.

The school will select the pupils based on a series of guidelines.

KS2 Years 5/6 at Primary Schools

*Assessed by the school as being at the National Curriculum level 3/4 borderline in maths or English or both these subjects and the school feels that the pupil is in fact capable of level 4 or above.
*Pupils who are not fullfilling their potential due to low self-esteem, lack of confidence or poor social skills so long as the pupil is not working below the level 3/4 borderline. This could include able pupils attaining level 4, who it is felt are capable of reaching level 5.

*Pupils selected must be in a position to benefit from, and deserve the opportunity to attend the centre.
*Pupils that are not selected must not be able to view selection as a reward for negative behaviour or poor attendance at school.
*Support from parents is essential.

Liaison Arrangements

The work of the study centre is intended to complement the work being done in schools and so it is vital that effective lines of communication are maintained between the centre, schools and parents.

Schools will be asked to appoint a link teacher within the school who will be responsible for liaising with the centre manager. The centre manager will provide Pools Study Support Centre information folders to schools, parents and pupils.

There will be an opportunity for parents and pupils to discuss all aspects of the study support sessions, including the aims and objectives of the centre, the transport arrangements and all the documentation for attendance.

Transport Arrangements

Pools Study Support Centre will provide transport to and from Victoria Park. Pupils will be collected from school by coach, travel to the ground at Victoria Park and will then be dropped off back at school after the session.

During the journeys, a member of staff from their own school will accompany pupils to ensure seat belts are worn and the journeys are safe and trouble free. This member of staff will remain in the centre during the visit to support and encourage the pupils.

Parents and pupils are reminded that any form of irresponsible behaviour or failure to comply with instructions during transit will result in the immediate withdrawal of the transport provision.
