Clark Looking To Hold On To Starting Spot
Ben Clark was back in action for Pools in Easter Monday's 2-0 victory over Yeovil Town at The Vic.
The big defender has been a frustrated spectator for much of the season after picking up a couple of injuries and is now looking forward to playing his part in Saturday's game with the League leaders,
"It has been disappointing because I have missed a lot of games and I was just thankful to get a chance on Monday.
"It should be a great game - they are on a high because they are the best team in the league at the moment and we are on a good run at home so it should be a good game and we'll go into it full of confidence.
"We have been disappointing away from home but Swansea will know they will be in for a tough game here on Saturday and we have to make sure we give them just that."
There will be a couple of familiar faces in the Swansea City squad, with former Poolies Tommy Butler and Darryl Duffy set to make the trip.
And, as Clark reveals, the players know just what to expect from their former teammates,
"Yes we do know a couple of their players well and we'll make sure we kick Tommy!" he joked.
"Seriously though, we know all about Tommy and Darryl.
"Darryl's goals helped us out a lot last year and Tommy is a great footballer, which he has proved at a high level.
"They will both be a threat if they play on Saturday."
With just six games remaining until the end of the season, the big defender admitted Pools want to go out on a high,
"We have six games left and we have got to try and win them - they are all important and we have to go out to win them all.
"I'd like to play in them all and the lads will all be out to pick up as many points as we can."
Danny Wilson tried out a new central defensive partnership for the game with Yeovil as he paired Clark with new boy Sam Collins.
However, the duo were split up after less than 15 minutes of the game as Collins went off injured but, as Clark admits, they had the perfect replacement on the bench,
"It was unfortunate - obviously the Gaffer wanted to try me and Sam at the back but we didn't really get much of a chance.
"But Nelse came in and we know each other's games well and it is certainly good for the team to have someone like him on the bench.
"We know we haven't kept enough clean sheets this year and that is something we have to address at the end of the season when the Manager will have a look at things.
"When we keep a clean sheet, we will usually go on to win the games because we have the players to score goals."
With Collins ruled out of Saturday's game, it looks likely that it will be the familiar pairing of Clark and Nelson who face Swansea City.
And, according to Clark, it looks set to be an entertaining afternoon,
"We are at home and we have to show the crowd what we are all capable of.
"I am sure Swansea will bring plenty of fans along too and, with both teams going out to attack, I am sure it will be a good game."
