Danny's Dutch Diary - Day Four
Hello and welcome to my latest update from the squad's trip to Holland.
We've enjoyed a light training session this morning in which we worked on a few match situations and set pieces to take in to this evening's game against Kiryat Schmona.
The lads will rest this afternoon to make sure they're fully prepared for the game and hopefully we'll see them put in a strong performance.
Yesterday we had some fun on the training ground in the afternoon which I think is important; you have to mix it up as you can't always be running.
The lads are a great bunch and they know how to take the micky out of each other and the staff as well so we got our own back a little bit at the end of the session.
The coaching staff formed a team and had a run out against the team who had lost the round robin competition. We had a good laugh and even took them to penalties which was unexpected!
It was good to lighten things up because pre-season is not the best of times and to get through it you have to have a smile on your face and that's what we try and do with the boys.
The team will be a little different tonight from what it was on Tuesday but the important thing to understand is that we have to get these boys as many minutes on the pitch as possible.
The squad is looking very strong in terms of competition for places, fitness-wise the lads are brilliant so now it's all about getting them games.
At the end of this morning's training session James Brown was a fiver lighter after I got the better of him in a little game of skill.
I lined three balls up and the idea was to chip the first ball over the second, make it bounce on the third and go forward and then keep on going and see how far you could get.
These young lads never seem to learn - they're not going to get one over on us old fellas but they keep trying! And to be honest, when it comes to these little skill games James is useless!
Anyway, that's all for now - hopefully we'll be talking about a good performance and result later tonight.
Danny.
