Last Gasp Sweeney Goal Secures Victory
A last-minute Antony Sweeney goal sealed a 2-1 win for Pools over Greenock Morton in their first pre season outing.
Pools were on top for most of the first half but a late Morton goal cancelled out James Brown's excellent opener to send the sides in level at half time.
Danny Wilson's men looked a little rusty in the opening minutes but once they found their feet, they started creating chances at will.
David Foley looked busy and dangerous on the right and Joel Porter and Brown formed a strong partnership in attack.
Arran Lee-Barrett made a great save to deny Morton when a ball in from the right was met first time by striker Newby - but a brilliant push away by the Pools stopper denied him.
Brown's goal came on the half hour mark when he let fly from 25 yards with his left foot and the deflected shot found its way past the goalkeeper and into the top right corner.
And, just as it looked as if Pools would carry the lead into the break, Morton midfielder Stevie Masterton ran through on the counter attack and drilled home from the edge of the area.

With both sides making changes during the break, the second half was a more disjointed affair, with neither team creating too many clear-cut chances.
Sweeney may have been disappointed when he sent a header over the bar from Jamie McCunnie's pin point right wing cross and then sub Michael Mackay just failed to hit the target after Richard Barker's flick on.
Mackay came close again ten minutes later when a low left-footed drive went just the wrong side of the right hand post.
However, Pools sealed a deserved win in the very last minute when a defensive lapse allowed Sweeney to run clear on goal on the left side of the box and his finish was lethal into the bottom right corner of the net.
