Chesterfield boss Lee Richardson has admitted that he would like his League Two side to embark on another good run in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

The Spireites reached the Northern Area semi-finals last season before being knocked out by Crewe and Richardson says he wants another shot at it this time around.

"It's a competition we did well in last season and we want to do well again," Richardson told Spireites World.

"We have a tough test against Hartlepool and we're looking forward to it."

The treatment room at Saltergate is a busy place at the moment with Phil Picken, Jamie Lowry, Alan O'Hare and Georgos Santos the latest to be hit by injury.

And with competition rules stating that a team of a certain strength must be selected, Richardson says it's going to test his squad to the limit.

"We need to make sure that six of the starting eleven play and it's only just going to be possible," he admitted.

"We have a squad and it allows me to use it; it will be a youngish squad but one that wants to do well in this competition.

"It's not the league, we are aware of that, but we want to do well and I'm sure Hartlepool will too."
