After a short Christmas break from writing for the Official Website Michael Nelson is back to give us his latest thoughts on life at The Vic and beyond...

The Christmas period?

"Performance-wise it was probably quite good but results didn't seem to come for us. I think the Swindon game was quite poor but the home games with Leeds and Leyton Orient were fixtures we thought we could get three points from and were disappointed afterwards that we didn't."

Sloppy goals being conceded?

"At the moment nobody is scoring great goals against us really, it's all been down to mistakes or us gifting teams goals rather than them having to work for them. We're chucking leads away rather than holding on to them too which is not what we're used to. When you go a goal up it's all about concentrating and we tell each other that during games. If we do our jobs then we can let the players in front of us go on and hopefully get another goal and win us the game. But we're making individual errors or teams are scoring goals against us that could have been prevented and it's not nice, especially when you're one of the lads at the back. I'm not very happy about it and neither are the rest of the lads."

January transfer window?

"We just have a bit of a laugh about it really. We always joke that we're going to train with our mobile phones in our socks so that we can keep in touch with the transfer news! And if someone checks their phone after training there's always a comment about whether we've signed anyone! In honesty though, there will be speculation at every club - but if something's going to happen it'll happen, it's doesn't matter about all the hype! We just treat it like any other month and get on with things."

Favourite moment of 2007?

"It has to be the win which got us promotion down at Wycombe. It sealed it for us that day and it was brilliant, especially after the disappointment of relegation the season before. I think as the game wore on it looked like a draw but then 'Barks' popped up with a header and we held on for the win. When the final whistle went it was just sheer relief."

New Year's resolutions?

"I've not made any myself and I've not heard many of the lads talking about them either. Hopefully we can just pick up as many good results as possible and have another successful year."

Snowball fights...

"There's been a few snowball fights at training this morning! When we got there the staff on reception had made a snowman next to the running track - we checked and it was a good six or seven inches bigger than David Foley! I was one of the last ones out and there was a group of older players standing together out of the way while the youngers ones were having a laugh. I think Scott Allison was lying down making a snow angel at one point too!"
